In addition to our single day workshops, we also run a number of landscape workshops that also include accommodation over the Autumn, Winter and Spring seasons when the lighting in the Scottish Highlands is at its best.

All workshops are fully escorted by experienced landscape photographer John Frid, and with a maximum of 2 guests, you are assured of plenty of one-to-one advice, tuition and guidance. We do all the driving so you can just sit back and enjoy the views.

Our workshops are suitable for anyone who enjoys taking photographs, no matter whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced enthusiast.

Please note that these workshops do not specifically include any sessions related to digital editing. We concentrate on spending as much time out and about as possible. However, if the weather is particularly bad, we can include a digital editing session if all participants are happy to do this. If you are specifically interested in digital editing, then you may find our Landscape and Digital Editing Workshop is better suited to your needs.

Workshop Duration

We usually offer either a 2-night or 3-night package (although we can tailor make a programme for longer if you require). On our 2-night package, we include 1 full day field trip. On our 3-night package, we include 2 full day field trips.

Workshops include accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis. Discounted rates are available if you do not need accommodation.

Our current multi offers run from 26th October 2018 through to 31st March 2019. We are fairly flexible on dates so just let us know the dates you require and we’ll do our best to fit you in.

Field Trip Locations

Our itinerary is kept deliberately flexible with locations chosen on a daily basis based on the prevailing weather. This helps to ensure you get the best possible images as we would rather go where the best opportunities exist rather than just follow a prescribed format that may not be best suited to the conditions.

The following is a sample of the various itineraries we can offer.

  • East Coast Field Trip

On this itinerary, we head east to the Moray coast which has a range of coastal locations to choose from including, Findhorn, Hopeman, Lossiemouth, Spey Bay, Portgordon and Portknockie. All of these provide a different shooting challenge and should yield some excellent seascapes. There is also a possibility (tides permitting) to get close to seals.

  • North West Field Trip

This field trip takes us north-west to the Blackwater River at Little Garve which enjoys superb morning sunlight. Heading further north we visit the scenic town of Ullapool where we’ll spend a little time to take in the photographic opportunities of the town and the splendid view down Loch Broom.

If time permits we continue our journey northwards where the landscape includes classic mountain peaks rising from the moorland. At Inverpolly there are glacial lochs and iconic mountains like Cul Mor and Stac Pollaidh.

Further north we come to Loch Assynt and the 15th-century Ardvreck Castle. Loch Assynt also provides a lovely waterfall opportunity.

  • Glen Affric Field Trip

Glen Affric is often described as the most beautiful glen in Scotland, and during late autumn, winter and spring the mountains are often snow-capped providing one of Scotland’s most iconic images. The Glen stretches for 30 miles from Kintail in the west towards Cannich in the east. The streams running down the mountains combine to create the River Affric that flows through Loch Affric and loch beinn a mheadhoin to Fasnakyle in Strathglass where it meets with the Abhainn Deabhag to form the River Glass.

After Glen Affric, if time permits, we visit Glen Cannich which is a truly remote location and can evoke a great sense of solitude. There are often Red Deer at this location.

  • Glencoe & Rannoch Moor Field Trip

Glen Coe is probably Scotland’s most famous and most scenic Highland Glen. As photographers, you will be inspired by the scale and grandeur of its surrounding mountains.

For many people, the most iconic image of Glencoe is the impressive peak of Buachaille Etive Mor – The great herdsman of Etive. Although we will not forget the bleak yet beautiful expanse of Rannoch Moor.

The above represents only a small selection of the possible field trips and there are a variety of destinations to choose from including places such as:

  • Eileen Donan Castle and Glenshiel (possibly also the Isle of Skye)
  • Loch Ness and Monadhliath Mountains
  • The Cairngorm National Park
  • The Black Isle and Cromarty Firth
  • Torridon, Sheildaig, Applecross and Lochcarron
  • Loch Maree, Poolewe and Gairloch
